Congratulations to Christyn Schneider, Meaghan Bailey and Herbey Wagner who have been selected as the Liveworm Scholarship students for 2012. The trio will work full time in the studio during January and February to fill in the gap before Semester 1 begins.

Congratulations to all of the 2011 QCA Bachelor of Design graduates on completing your studies and putting on the spectacular portfolio exhibition, non parallel, in Brisbane.

For those who could not make it, the graduating students have a selection of work uploaded on www.qcagraduates.com to look through. The catalogue of the exhibition can be found on the Griffith University website.

Every year we look back at all of the many students who have worked with us and select a student who we feel has gone above and beyond in the studio for this award. This is always a challenging task, made especially difficult by the massive effort and fantastic outcomes of the students here in 2011.

Congratulations to Jessica Wong, the recipient of the 2011 Liveworm Award for Excellence (pictured above receiving her prize in giant cheque form). Jessica spent six months in Liveworm producing a large quantity of excellent work. She demonstrating a high level of conceptual ability, a solid technical skills set and a good sense of humour (even when dealing with tight deadlines).

Hot on the heals of finishing the 2010 Australian PhotoJournalist (APJ) publication, the next instalment is well underway (initial experiments in cut and paste titles shown above). This edition will be designed by Liveworm 2011 Scholarship students Kevin Tuazon and Danni-elle Cook.

Liveworm students walked away with several awards at the 2009 Queensland Design on Show (qdos) awards run by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) Queensland branch. Within the Emerging Student category open to Queensland tertiary institutions, only three projects were nominated in the Visual Communication discipline — and all three were produced in our studio.

Of the three students involved, two were presented with Silver awards while one was awarded a Finalist mention. Congratulations to Ashlea O’Neil for her illustration work on the QCA Art Theory Bookmarks (Silver), Tara Darby for her Research Higher Degree catalogue layout (Silver) and Stephanie Do Rozio for the design of MC Lessons CD packaging (Finalist).

The awards night was further Liveworm flavoured by the design work students had contributed to the award branding, including a catalogue of winners and a mural alongside the finalist exhibition. See the event website for more information about the Queensland Design on Show awards.
